I spoke at WordCamp US two weeks ago about six different use cases I’ve seen for Elasticsearch within the WordPress community.
I also mentioned two projects for WordPress.org that are planned for 2016 and involve Elasticsearch if anyone is looking for opportunities to learn to use Elasticsearch and contribute to WordPress:
- WordPress.tv is getting rebuilt and there are a lot of opportunities to improve it with Elasticsearch. Check out https://make.wordpress.org/tv/2015/10/29/designing-wordpress-tv-functional-requirements-recap/
- Glotpress (which powers https://translate.wordpress.org/) is planning to implement a translation memory on top of Elasticsearch to enable faster translations of WordPress and plugins. See: https://glotpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/288 and https://glotpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/327
